Mr. James Warner Smaw, 95, of 400 Warren Chapel Church Road, Chocowinity, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Freemount Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. James Swindell Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Whitfield &Whitley Cemetery, Washington.
Mr. Smaw was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 26, 1911. He was the son of the late Jessie and Julia M. Shaw. He attended the Beaufort County Schools. He was married to Gatsie M. Smaw, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Shirley S. Starkie of Chocowinity, Willie Mae S. Hatley and Charlotte S. Johnson, both of Raleigh, and Doris Wrighton of Greenville; one son, Walter Smaw of the home; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service for the final viewing. The family will receive friends at the home.
