The Terra Ceia Knights boys’ team saw its season come to an end with a 91-49 loss to Cresset Christian Academy in Tuesday’s first round of the NCISAA Class 1-A state playoffs.
The Knights, the No. 9 seed, finished the season with a 20-7 record.
Cresset (19-8), the No. 8 seed, advanced to play top-seeded Trinity Christian School (27-2).
Hendrik Van Dorp paced the Knights with 17 points, while Bradley Van Staalduinen added 10.

Terra Ceia game on radio
The Terra Ceia girls basketball state playoff game will be on the radio Thursday.
Terra Ceia (22-5), the No. 3 seed from the Tarheel Independent Conference, will play No. 6 seed Cresset Christian Academy (14-10), a 63-44 winner over No. 11 Faith Christian School (22-3) on Tuesday, in the second round on Thursday. The game, which will be played at Asheville Christian Academy, will tip off at 4 p.m.
Thursday’s game will be broadcast beginning at 4 p.m. on Magic 96, WLJL-95.9 in Plymouth.
The Knights’ games will be broadcast as long as the team keeps winning.
If Terra Ceia advances, it would play Friday at 5:30 p.m. back at Asheville Christian Academy
The championship game is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Asheville School.
Tigers leap into second round
Led by Katie Paschal’s 28 points, Williamston was able to top Columbia 60-38 in the first round of the state tournament.
Williamston coach Jimmy Elks said he was happy with his team’s defensive effort.
The Tigers, the No. 3 seed from the Atlantic Conference, also got a strong night from Michelle Bracey, who chipped in nine points. Monee Jones added seven.
Williamston (17-6) will play Weldon (20-3) in the second round of the playoffs on Thursday. The Chargers, the top seed from the Tar Roanoke Conference, took a 79-31 win over Bear Grass (11-15) on Tuesday.
The Wildcats, the No. 2 seed from the Tideland Conference, finished with a 12-11 record. Stephanie Holton had 16 for Columbia.

Redskins fall on road
The Roanoke Redskins fell 53-43 to the Southeast Halifax Trojans in the first round of the NCHSAA Class 1-A state playoffs.
The Trojans (14-8), the No. 2 seed from the Tar Roanoke Conference, jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter. Roanoke (18-9), the No. 2 seed from the Atlantic Conference, cut its deficit to one in the second half. However, the Redskins could never take the lead.
Emoni Jones paced the Redskins with 17 points and Andrea Moore added 11.

Southside, Creswell fall
Southside and Creswell lost in the opening round of Tuesday’s NCHSAA Class 1-A state playoffs.
The Southside Seahawks (7-16), a wild-card entry out of the Atlantic Conference, lost 57-28 to East Carteret (17-3), the top seed from the Coastal Plains Conference.
The Creswell Tigers (10-9), the No. 3 seed from the Tideland Conference, suffered a 53-31 loss to the Manteo Redskins (9-17), the No. 2 seed in the Albemarle Conference.

Demons win opener
The P.S. Jones Demons middle school boys soccer team beat H.J. McDonald 4-3 in the season opener Tuesday afternoon.
Bobby Jefferson had two goals, T.J. Crompton had one and Coleman Smithwick had one goal in the victory.
The Demons play Monday at Havelock.
