Mrs. Mariette S. Everett

Mrs. Mariette Smith Everett, a former resident of Everett Community Road, Pinetown, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Ridgewood Manor in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Danny Robertson. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Peyton Clark, Forrest Smith, Joseph Bowen, Randy Moore, Robert Whitley and Mike Swanner.
Mrs. Everett was born in Johnston County on February 10, 1910. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Percy Smith and Ione Elizabeth Britt Smith. Mrs. Everett attended and graduated from Four Oaks High School. She attended East Carolina Teachers’ College and graduated from Western Carolina Teachers’ College. During World War II, Mrs. Everett taught school at Portsmouth and worked in the Navy yard. On September 29, 1945, she married Gertha Bryant Everett, who preceded her in death, November 22, 1984. After she was married, Mrs. Everett served as a substitute teacher for many years.
Mrs. Everett was a member of the Athens Chapel Church of Christ, Ladies Aide #2 of the church, and the Pamlico Senior Citizens Club. She was a member of the Beaufort County Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Bryant Everett of Pinetown; a daughter, Julia Dale Everett Panaro of Greenville and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Everett was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin Sanders Smith, Rufus Dallas Smith, and Joseph Percy Smith, Jr. and a sister, Julia Wilmouth Smith.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of her son, Wayne Everett, 647 Everett Community Road, Pinetown.
