Mrs. Annie Belle Jennette Smithwick, age 93, formerly of the Ponzer community, Hyde county, died Monday, February 26, 2007 at Britthaven of Pamlico in Grantsboro.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Mount Olive Church of Christ, Highway 264 East, Belhaven, conducted by Billy Harold Smithwick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The following will serve as active pallbearers: Doug Armstrong, Talmadge Cooper, Sonny Jackson, Terry McCall, Brice Williams, and Lee Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Armstrong, Carr Baynor and Ted Bowen.
Mrs. Smithwick was born in the Sladesville community of Hyde county on July 7, 1913. She was the daughter of the late George Washington Jennette and Lydia Frances Alcox Jennette. Mrs. Smithwick was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his logging business. She was a member of Mount Olive Church of Christ.
On December 7, 1929, she married Fred Smithwick of Ponzer. Mr. Smithwick preceded her in death on June 24, 1986.
Mrs. Smithwick is survived by a son, Fred “Ted” Lester Smithwick of Ponzer; a daughter Velma Smithwick Hickman and her husband, Charles of Blounts Creek; one sister, Stella Schlieser and her husband, Edwards of Mechanicsville, VA; grandchildren, Teddy Smithwick and his wife, Clara of Darien, GA, Stella Smith of Greenville, N.C., Harold Smith and his wife, Tammy of Chocowinity; and great grandchildren, Maria S. Adams and daughters, Kayla and Emily; Jessie Lynn Smithwick; Justin Smith and Emily Smith.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Smithwick was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven.
