Mr. George Russell Wiggins of 346 Frederick Road, Chocowinity, died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Beaufort County Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Beech Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Chocowinity, with the Rev. Paul Foxworth officiating. Burial will follow in Smith family cemetery, Chocowinity.
Mr. Wiggins was born Dec. 10, 1937, the son of the late Bennie Wiggins Sr. and Clara Bell Smith Wiggins. He was a member of the Class of 1955 at P.S. Jones High School, Washington. He attended Beaufort County Community College, Washington, where he earned a degree in air conditioning and refrigeration repairs. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, retiring on March 26, 1976 with the rank of chief petty officer. He was an engineman E-6, earning numerous medals and commendations. He was married to Geraldine Crawford Wiggins, who survives. He was a member of Beech Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Chocowinity, where he served as president of the trustee board and superintendent of Sunday school for 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Rogers of San Diego, and Daphne Fournier of Fort Bragg; two sons, George Russell Wiggins Jr. of San Diego, and Jerome Wiggins of Riverdale, Md.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary L. McCoy and Florence Bowen and one brother, Bennie Wiggins Jr.
The body may be viewed today from 1-8:30 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The family will receive friends at the home.
