Mr. Alton Keith Harding Sr., 81, formerly of Cherry Road, Washington, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Beaufort County Hospital, Washington.
In keeping with Mr. Harding’s wishes, his body was donated to anatomical research and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Harding was born in Chocowinity on March 2, 1926. He was the son of the late William Joseph “Jody” Harding and Maude Hardison Harding. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was married to the former Dorothy Deloris Fields, who preceded him in death. He had worked as the manager of the former Travelers Service Station in Chocowinity and later worked with the Beaufort County ABC Board in Washington. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Chocowinity.
Survivors include one son, Alton Keith Harding Jr. of Washington; one daughter, Rebecca H. Provost of Washington and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William R. Harding and Joseph Harold Harding, and one sister, Helen Downs.
