Ms. Barbara Ann Thomas of 106 E. 11th St., Washington, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Durham Regional Hospital.
A private graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, with Father M. Arturo Cabra officiating.
Ms. Thomas was born Sept. 20, 1952, the daughter of the late Saul and Marie Freeman Jones. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral School in New Jersey, the University of Central Florida, the University of Memphis in Tennessee, and did further studies toward her PHD degree. She was a member of Washington-Plymouth Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Alumnae Sorority, Inc., Girl Scouts, a community volunteer with youth and a Notary Public. She was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, where she was involved with the sick and shut-ins and church reception.
Survivors include one daughter, Avanell Marie Pugh of Greenville; one son, Raymond Thomas II of Newport News, Va.; one sister, Lenora Yvonne Jones of Raleigh ; one brother, Saul Jones Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington. An Omega Omega service will be held by the Washington-Plymouth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. today from 8-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
