Mr. Owen Melvin Hansen, Jr., 62, of Columbia, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Born April 9, 1944, in Kingsville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Owen M. and Margarette Siders Hansen, Sr. and was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hansen; sisters, Marsha Weber and Darlene Hansen. Mr. Hansen was a retired Chief Warrant Officer with 20 years service in the U.S. Army, including Vietnam. He later worked as an automotive mechanic for Oakes BP Service.
His family includes his wife, Dolores Rhodes Hansen of Columbia, N.C.; daughters, Darlene H. Rogers and friend Angel Herlong of Manteo, N.C., April H. Gammon and husband Larry of Pinetown, N.C.; son, J. Anthony Rhodes and wife Melissa of Aulander, N.C.; brothers, Ronald Hansen of Taylors, S.C., and Gary Hansen of Ashdabula, Ohio; grandchildren Jacob, Nicole, Melissa, Wesley and Andrew.
Memorial service with full military honors will be held Saturday, March 24, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the Maitland Funeral Home Chapel, Creswell, with Rev. Joe Wynns officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday following the service and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
