Mrs. Bernice Gorham Smith, 81, of 111 Anderson Place, Washington, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Beaufort County Hospital, Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Washington, with Archdeacon Joy Dosher officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Smith was born in Beaufort County on March 6, 1926. She was the daughter of the late John E. and Laura Leary Gorham. She attended the Beaufort County Schools and did further studies at Beaufort County Community College, Washington. She attended E &M Beauty College, New Bern. She was a licensed beautician. She retired as a teacher’s assistant with the Beaufort County Schools. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Washington.
Survivors include four sons, Walter L. Smith of Linden, N.J., Kenneth W. Smith of Washington, Gregory S. Smith of Minneapolis, Minn., and Avery E. Smith of Waldorf, Md.; one sister, Ernestine G. Pierce of Chocowinity; one brother, John Roland Gorham of Reeders, Pa.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William E. Gorham and one sister, Melinda L. Gorham.
The family will receive friends at the home and prior to the funeral service from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Washington.
Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
