Mr. Walter “Jason” Whisenant, age 70, a resident of 5006 Clarks Neck Road of Washington, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at his home.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Riverview Baptist Church officiated by Dr. James Hagwood and Rev. Henry Gray. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
Mr. Whisenant was born in Pitt County on December 29, 1936, son of the late Hobert Jason Whisenant and the late Rosa Annabelle Hardy Whisenant. On October 5, 1957, Mr. Whisenant married Shirley Mae Coward. He attended Pitt County School Systems and for many years, Mr. Whisenant worked in construction for Fluor Daniels.
Mr. Whisenant is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Mae Coward Whisenant; one daughter: Joyce Mae Whisenant Gray and her husband Henry of Washington; two sons: Walter Ray Whisenant and his wife Marie of Washington, Michael Jason Whisenant of Washington; two brothers: Ottis Whisenant and his friend Liz Williams of Washington, Fonzie Whisenant of Washington; three sisters: Lillian Mills and her husband John of Blounts Creek, Goldie Roberson and her husband Jay of Washington, Murtie Daniels of Washington; six grandchildren: Jason and Nicole Lewis, Stacey Dixon, Bethany Gray, Jonathan Waters, Justin Waters; one great-grandchild: Alyssa Faith Lewis; and one honorary grandchild: Megan Manning.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whisenant was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 6, 2007 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaufort County Relay for Life in c/o Lisa Alligood, 7581 Broad Creek Road, Washington, NC 27889.
