Mr. Cohen R. Wesson Sr., 84, of 531 Grabtown Road, Windsor, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Martin General Hospital, Williamston.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bazemore Temple Church of God in Christ, Windsor, with Elder Maurice Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Carter family cemetery, Windsor.
Mr. Wesson was born in Windsor on March 25, 1923. he was the son of the late Cohen and Clara Byrd Wesson. He was an Army veteran serving in World War II. He was first married to Beulah Speller, who preceded him in death. He later married Alberta Freeman Wesson, who survives. He had worked as a machine operator. He was a member of Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church and Bazemore Temple Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Askin of Atlanta, Ga., and Maggie Mitchell of Windsor; one son, Cohen Wesson Jr. of Windsor; four stepchildren, Anthony Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif., William Wilson of Las Vegas, Nev., Raymond Wilson of Petersburg, Va., and Bertha Bryant of Windsor; one sister, Annie Wilson of Windsor; and one brother, Charles Wesson of Windsor.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Josephine Scott and four brothers, Leon, Horace, James and Edwin.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at Bazemore Temple Church of God in Christ, Windsor.
