Mr. Melvin Duane Squibbs, 75, of 261 Carrow Road, Chocowinity, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Chocowinity, with pastor Ronnie Gurganus officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
Mr. Squibbs was born in Peanut, Pa., on Nov. 8, 1931. He was the son of the late Robert and Grace Leana Irwin Squibbs. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. On Aug. 13, 1954, he married the former Mary Catherine Bryan, who survives. He worked as a psychiatric aide with Torrance State Hospital in Blairsville, Pa., until his retirement. While living in Blairsville, he was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He was a member of Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include three sons, Franklin Duane Squibbs of Jacksonville, Fla., Terry Lynn Squibbs of Portsmouth, Va., and Bryan Keith Squibbs of East Lake, Ohio; two daughters, Darleen Ann Squibbs Lewis of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Shirley Jean Squibbs Graham of Scottdale, Pa.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, three half sisters and four brothers.
The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, and other times at the home.
