Mrs. Sallie Bailey Morgan Yert Winborne, age 96, a resident of 308 Simmons Street, Washington died Wednesday April 11, 2007 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday April 13, 2007 at First Church of Christ in Washington, officiated by S. Ray West. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
John Morgan, Philip Sterling, Ed Mercer, Hugh Sterling, Jr., Norwood Houston and Wade Boston will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Winborne was born in Beaufort County on February 10, 1911, daughter of the late George W. Morgan and Belle Bailey Morgan. She married Harold Edwin Yert, Sr. who preceded her in death. Later, she married O.S. Winborne who also precedes her in death. Mrs. Winborne worked in the Admissions Department at Beaufort County Hospital. She was secretary for the Beaufort County Chapter of the Red Cross, past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Bug House Gang and a cancer survivor. She was a member of the Ladies Circle, and the Sunday School at First Church of Christ in Washington.
She is survived by her son: Harold Edwin “Butch” Yert, Jr. and his wife, Brenda Joy of Belhaven; three grandchildren: Rhonda Fay Tillman and her husband, Keith of Waycross, GA; Philip D. Harrison and his wife, Amie of Decatur, GA and Rebecca Leigh Goforth and her husband, David of Locust Grove, GA and six great grandchildren: Grant Goforth, Luke Goforth, Matthew Harrison, Daniel Harrison, Hannah Tillman and Heather Tillman.
She is also preceded in death by her sisters: Kathleen Smith, Ruth Ferrell and Lucille Keel and her brothers: John Lucas “Jack” Morgan and George F. Morgan.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at her home located at 308 Simmons Street, Washington.
