Mr. Bryan Shelton Harris, 81, of 519 Church St., Fairfield, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Pungo District Hospital, Belhaven.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fairfield Christian Church with Ray Everton and Mr. Harris’ nephew, Danny Gish, officiating. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born in Bethany, Neb., on July 4, 1925. He was the son of the late Douglas Rhea and Vira Rafferty Harris. He worked for a number of years as a mechanic with an automobile dealership. After moving to Hyde County, he worked with the county as an attendant with the solid waste department in Swan Quarter. He was a leader in the former Odd Fellow Lodge in Swan Quarter. He was a member of Fairfield Christian Church, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include two brothers, James F. Harris of Xenia, Ohio, and Harry H. Harris of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four sisters, Rosalie H. Wycinowski of Orlando, Fla., Ruth H. Breeze of Centervile, Ohio, Florann H. Gish Flatt of Palm Bay, Fla., and Virginia H. Carawan of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen H. Grooms.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, and other times at the home of his sister, Virginia Carawan, 519 Church St., Fairfield.
