GREENVILLE — Mrs. Jean Barnes Riggan, 66, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Wayne Flora and Rev. Gene Gilbert. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Riggan lived her early life in Cary and had made her home in Greenville since 1972. She worked with her husband at Riggan Shoe Shop for a number of years and for the past 11 years she had worked with Barnes and Nobles as a book seller. She was a member of the University Church of God and had been a member of the Greenville Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star for many years. She was also active in the Pitt County Shrinettes and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Richard Riggan; son, David Riggan and wife, Shannon, of Washington, NC; daughters, Joyce Hawkins of Grimesland, NC and Jenny Toler and husband, Robert, of Greenville, NC; sisters, Charlotte Ann Watts of West Virginia, and Sharon Lynell Mabaet of Oregon; brothers, Kenneth Earl Barnes of Pennsylvania, Isom Charles Barnes and Arthur Brantley Barnes both of North Carolina; 7 grandchildren and her loving pet “Lacey.”
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Wilkerson Funeral Home. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of Jenny &Robert Toler, 435 Jackrabbit Run near Pactolus.
