Mr. Clinton James Sherrod, 62, of 571 22nd St., Newport News, Va., and formerly of Washington, died Monday, May 14, 2007, at Sentara Careplex, Hampton, Va.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Saint John Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William F. Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mr. Sherrod was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 29, 1945. He was the son of the late Daniel Sherrod Sr. and Eudie P. Sherrod. He attended the Beaufort County Schools. He was married to Gearldine H. Sherrod, who survives.
Survivors include three sons, Clinton J. Sherrod Jr. of Williamston, Dewayne Sherrod of Fayetteville, and Michael Sherrod of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four daughters, Sonia Sherrod of Florida, Vanessa Sherrod of Pittsburgh, Pa., Patricia S. Matthews of Hampton, Va., and Wanda Sherrod of Greenville; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnnie R. Sherrod of Washington and three sisters, Ellen S. Latham, Ruby S. Williams and Linda J. “Sue” Horton, all of Washington.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Ruby S. Williams, 807 Simmons St., Washington.
