Eddie L. “Lukie” Jones

Mr. Eddie “Lukie” Jones, age 79, of 216 E. 7th St., Washington died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at his home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2007 at the 15th Street Church of God and will be conducted by Rev. Thomas Lee and Rev. Eddie L. Jones, III. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Dr. Frank Sheldon, Rayford Lilley, James E. Jones, Jr., Jesse T. Jones, Jr., Donald Vick and Larry Vick will serve as pallbearers. Bernice Bunting, Willie Beacham, Frankie Briley, Granville Lilley, Leon Davidson and Bruce Bunting will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Lukie was born in Beaufort Co. on November 16, 1927 to the late Eddie and Bertha Cayton Jones and on October 10, 1947 he married Carolyn Wynne who survives. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947. In 1954 he and his brother Jesse started Jones Brothers, which was a family owned flooring business until their retirement in 1995. He took pride in his work as a master ceramic mechanic, a work in which he did all over eastern North Carolina. He was a member of the 15th Street Church of God for 57 years serving as the Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, church clerk, men’s fellowship, choir, Pastor’s Council Board and organized the church’s annual barbeque dinner. He had a perfect attendance in Sunday School for 42 years. He loved his family, church and his garden. His love of gardening was well noticed by everyone that traveled Hwy. 264 on the corner at Rosedale, most people wanted to know who this garden belonged too. He loved to share the rewards of his garden with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Carolyn Wynne Jones, two sons, Eddie (Lenny) Jones and his wife Eileen of Cleveland, TN, Jeff Jones and his wife Debbie of Washington, four grandchildren, Rev. Eddie L. Jones, III and his wife Kim of Corbin, KY, Lindsey Jones Phillips and husband Jamie of Fort Mill, SC, Jenna Jones of Charlotte, Caleb Jones of Washington, two great grandchildren, Chloe and Macey Jones of Corbin, KY, one sister, Katie J. Liverman of Baltimore, MD, three brothers, Jesse T. Jones and wife Shirley, Jamie Jones Sr. and wife Rosa, Merlon Jones and wife Ethel all of Washington, three sister-in-laws, Ethel Warner of Chesapeake, VA, Evelyn Webster and Irene Taylor both of Washington and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gertrude W. Mish, one brother, Johnny Warner and one brother in law, Joseph Liverman.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Asera Care Hospice and Dr. Frank Sheldon for all their kindness and care shown to the family.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the 15th Street Church of God fellowship hall and other times at the home, 216 E. 7th St., Washington.
