Mrs. Irene Jones Shoffner

Mrs. Edith “Irene” Jones Shoffner, age 89, a resident of 304 Pamlico Drive, Pamlico Village, Washington, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at Beaufort County Hospital.
Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington, conducted by Steve Hill. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Peter Allen, T. W. Allen, Will Martin, Jason Day, Bill DeBrauwer and Jason Madre.
Mrs. Shoffner was born in Greensboro, N.C on September 9, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Ira Clarence Jones and Velna Shoffner Jones. Mrs. Shoffner worked as a storekeeper for Betsy Ross Clothing store, store clerk for Taldo’s Dress Shop, and retired as supervisor of service and shipping department at Hamilton Beach. She served as church organist at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ for 25 years. Mrs. Shoffner attended First Church of Christ in Washington.
Mrs. Shoffner was married to Garland Wayland “Pete” Shoffner, who preceded her in death, May 8, 1989.
Mrs. Shoffner is survived by three daughters, Sandra Shoffner Martin and husband, William Neil Martin of Greensboro, Mary Lou Shoffner Madre and husband Philip Madre of Chocowinity, N.C., Garleen Shoffner Woolard and husband, Hal Woolard of Washington, N.C.; three sisters, Louise Jones Greeson of Liberty, N.C., Mary Frances Jones and Jean Jones Greeson both of Julian, N.C.; six grandchildren, Peter Owen Allen and wife Tammy Allen, Mary Beth Martin Day and husband, Jason Day, Thomas Walt “TW” Allen and wife Lisa Allen, William Neil “Will” Martin, Jr. and wife, Lauren Martin, Sara Olivia Woolard and Edith Lauren Woolard; three step grandchildren, Nikole Madre DeBrauwer and husband, Bill Debrauwer, Jason Madre and wife, Rebekah Madre, Courtney Madre; and six great grandchildren, Jackson Thomas Allen, Kyle Rose Allen, Cameron Avery Allen, Madigan Raine Allen, William Madre “Liam” Debrauwer and Nora Elizabeth Madre.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Shoffner was preceded in death by five brothers: Harry Jones, Floyd Jones, Clarence Jones, Jack Jones, and David Jones.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home, 304 Pamlico Drive, Pamlico Village, Washington.
