Mr. Melvin Eugene Pierce, 82, of 303 Queen St., Windsor, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at his home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Windsor Assembly of God with the Rev. Chuck Gray and the Rev. Glenn Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Pierce was born in Bertie County on May 17, 1925, to the late Thomas H. and Nancy Ida Baker Pierce. He was a former police chief for the Town of Windsor. He served for 30 years, the longest in Windsor history. Mr. Pierce was a World War II Army veteran and also served in the National Guard. He was a member of Windsor Assembly of God and was a former Lion’s Club member.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Johnson Pierce of Windsor; one sister, Delsie P. Hughes of Newport News, Va., and three brothers, Johnny Pierce and Spencer Pierce, both of Windsor, and Donald Pierce of Hampton, Va.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Walker Funeral Home of Windsor and at other times at home.
