Beecher Kirkley

Mr. Beecher Kirkley, age 74, of Vanceboro, died Friday, May 25, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Palmetto Free Will Baptist Church in Vanceboro, conducted by Pastor William Sealy and Pastor Lonnie Weathington, Jr. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Kenneth Kelly, Milton Brooks, Roy Chandler, Keith Wetherington, Jeff Hill, Ricky Laughinghouse, and William Meeks.
Mr. Kirkley was born in Chesterfield, S.C. on October 28, 1932. He was the son of the late Robert Kirkley and Eula Wallace Kirkley. Mr. Kirkley was a carpenter.
A U.S. army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Kirkley received numerous medals including the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, Occupation Medal (Japan) and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Mr. Kirkley is survived by his wife, Julia (Judy) Hicks of the home; two sons, Gary Kirkley of Washington, Beecher Eugene Kirkley of Virginia and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home, 770 Lewis Road, Vanceboro.
