WASHINGTON — Mrs. Bernice Johnson Eakes, age 89, formerly of Greene County, died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Britthaven of Washington.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Church Street Chapel of the Farmville Funeral Home by Rev. David Thompson and Rev. Jim Marcum. Interment will follow in the Ayden Cemetery in Ayden.
Mrs. Eakes was a member of Mount Calvary Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Rudolph Eakes; two sons, Joseph Richard Eakes and Jeffrey Ronald Eakes; a daughter, Myra Elaine Eakes; and two brothers, Jasper Johnson and Jesse Johnson.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Eakes Elks and husband, Raymond and Eleanor Eakes Gunsallus, all of Washington; two sons, Curtis Rudolph Eakes and Tim Eakes and wife, B.J., all of Washington; a daughter by love, Rebecca Bostic of Ayden; four sisters, Ruth Hagans of Ayden, Lucy Adams and Lena Evans, both of Greenville, and Gladys Morris of China Grove; one brother, Frank Johnson of Greenville; eleven grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Farmville Funeral Home, Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. and other times at the home of Dorothy and Raymond Elks, 303 Cowan Street, Washington, N.C.
