ATLANTIC BEACH — Martha McFarland Russell of 104 Talford Drive, Atlantic Beach died on June 11, 2007 at her home.
Martha was born in Oxford, NC on January 26, 1937 to the late William Alfred and Pattie Tunstall McFarland.
She was a graduate of Oxford High School, Stratford College in Danville, VA, attended Meredith College and graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC. She worked for the state of North Carolina for 20 years, retiring from Tryon Palace in New Bern, NC.
Martha was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her examples of love and her dignity throughout her battle with cancer gave, and will continue to give, inspiration to those who knew her.
Martha is survived by her husband of 48 years, Archie Keith Russell of Atlantic Beach; two sons, Keith McFarland Russell of Boone, Robert Macon Russell and his wife, Angee of Morehead City; one grandchild, Elizabeth Macon Russell; sisters, Lillian McFarland Hicks of Hillsboro and Lelia McFarland Frazier and her husband, Jim, of Roanoke Rapids.
The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Jennifer Garst and employees of Duke University Medical Center for their excellent care and support and to the pastor and members of Bogue Banks Baptist Church for their Christian love and kindness.
A memorial service will be held at Bogue Banks Baptist Church, 1417 W. Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach on June 14, 2007 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bogue Banks Baptist Church.
