Mr. Jesse David Cox Sr., age 87, of 3017 Corsica Rd. of Washington, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at the Beaufort Co. Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. Karen Crutchfield. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Tim McSwiney, Justin Fore, Troy Ball, Stuart Godley, Michael Mills and Neil Woolard will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Cox was born in Pitt Co. on October 9, 1919 to the late Herman David and Sophronia Oakley Cox and on October 24, 1944 he married Lola Mae Ball who survives him. He was a graduate of Chocowinity High School, served his country in the United States Army Air Corps, was a disabled veteran and attended Wares Chapel United Methodist Church. In 1963 Mr. Cox retired from the family business that he had worked with his father and brothers, HD Cox &Sons Lumber Co. Later in life he was President of Cox Builders Inc. in which he continued to work with his son David even after his retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Cox Alligood and her husband Danny of Washington; one son, Jesse David Cox Jr. and his wife Janice of Greensboro; two brothers, Milton Cox and Douglas Cox, both of Washington; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Cox.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home, 3017 Corsica Rd., Washington.
