Joseph Davis Berry, Sr., age 83, of 1482 Salem Church Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Berry, a life-long native of Weeksville, was the son of the late Walter Franklin Berry and Grace Belle Eves Berry. He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII, was an agriculture farmer, a member of Salem Baptist Church, Aurora Lodge #300 AF &AM, a York Rite Mason and a Shriner.
Mr. Berry is survived by a daughter, Bethany Grace Berry-Weiss and her husband Richard David Weiss of Orlando, FL; two sons, Joseph Davis “Dave” Berry, Jr., and wife Lesia of Shiloh, NC, and Tony Lee Berry and wife Patsy of Weeksville, NC; the mother of his children, Joyce P. Berry; ten grandchildren and special friend and caretaker, Carol Sullivan and daughter Missy. He was predeceased by a sister, Geneva Berry, and two brothers, Walter Berry and Allen Berry.
A graveside funeral service will be Friday, July 6, 2007 at 3 p.m. in New Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Jeffery C. Russell officiating and Masonic Rites by the Eureka Masonic Lodge #317. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of the son, Mr. &Mrs. Tony Berry, 1282 Bart James Road, in the Weeksville section of Elizabeth City, NC.
