Mrs. Emily “Lucille” Leggett Swain, age 75, a resident of 304 Lawson Road, Smallwood, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at her home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington conducted by Dr. Michael Price and Dr. John Ledford. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Tommy Webster, Jerry Jennette, Tom Anglim, Gary Bridges, James Phillips and Richard Whitaker.
Mrs. Swain was born in Beaufort County on September 19, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Henry Chester Leggett and Lucretia Cherry Leggett. Mrs. Swain was a retired 3rd and 4th grade school teacher, with 32 years of service. She was a member of the National Educators Association (N.E.A.), the North Carolina Association of Educators (N.C.A.E.) and Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Swain was a member of the First Christian Church and C.W.F. She was an avid gardener and an animal lover.
Mrs. Swain was married to William Vernon Swain, Sr., who preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Swain Cox and husband, Charles and daughter, McKenna of Washington; her son, William Vernon “Billy” Swain and wife, Dana and son Travis of Washington; and her sister, Ada Waters of Pinetown.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of her daughter, Janet Swain Cox, 602 Northwood Road, Smallwood, Washington.
