The fireworks came a day late in Washington as Beaufort County and Snow Hill put on a show Thursday at Futrell Field as the two teams tallied 25 runs on 28 hits. However, Beaufort County Post 15 was on the losing end of the offensive display as it dropped its season finale, 17-8.
Post 15 got off to a rough start as starting pitcher Patrick Williams was forced to leave after throwing only two-thirds of an inning with a back injury. Williams let up one run in his brief stint.
Corey Rogerson came out of the bullpen and pitched a shaky two- plus innings allowing nine runs on six hits while issuing six walks.
Post 94 stayed on the offensive all night, posting at least one run in every inning except the bottom of the fifth when Post 15’s third pitcher, Alan Swain, recorded the team’s only scoreless inning.
Overall, Beaufort used five pitchers and finished the game with catcher Zach Vanvorhees on the mound.
Post 15 coach Doc Austin said Snow Hill did a good job of making the best out of its opportunities.
Snow Hill’s Taylor Sutton certainly made the most out of his plate appearances as he was 2-3 with a two-run home run to finish the game with five RBIs.
Sutton also started the game for Post 94 and pitched three-plus innings allowing two earned runs.
Sean Droese led Post 15 from the plate going 2-5 with two RBIs.
Austin said Beaufort, which finished the season 6-11 (4-6), has a solid chance to make the postseason as a No. 4 seed.
If the team does, it will begin the playoffs on July 16.
