Mr. Dan Mayo, Sr., 93, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at Britthaven of Washington.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, Greenville. Burial will be in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Mayo was a native of Pitt County and moved to Beaufort County in the early 1940s. He farmed most of his life, and in his later years worked part-time in security at V.O.A., Site A. At the time of his death, he was the oldest member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lillie Belle Evans Mayo; a daughter, Barbara Ann Mayo; a brother, Ben Mayo; and sisters, Lindsey Mayo, Lizzie Coville, Corney Stocks, Katie Clyde Ward and May Belle Hall.
He is survived by two sons, Dan “Danny” Mayo, Jr. and wife, Gail and Kenneth L. Mayo and wife, Wanda; two granddaughters, Tracey M. Jones and husband, William, and Kaitlynn M. Mayo; and a grandson, Joshua K. Mayo, all of Washington; and two sisters, Henrietta Mills of Washington and Annabelle Heath of Greenville.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the home of Kenneth and Wanda Mayo, 4283 VOA Road, Washington, NC.
