Mrs. Mary Lee Gardner Griffin of 508 S. Main St., Lewiston-Woodville, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at home.
A graveside service will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Lewiston-Woodville.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Warrenton on June 2, 1916. She graduated from Women’s College in Greensboro in 1939. She taught school in Warren, Northampton and Bertie counties. In 1962, she completed her master’s of guidance at East Carolina College and then became the first guidance counselor in Bertie County at Bertie High School. After her retirement in 1975, she served as a docent for Hope Plantation near Windsor. She was married to Burges Urquhart Griffin, who preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include one daughter, Louise Griffin Kesler; one son, Burges Urquhart Griffin Jr.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home or at the home of B.B. Griffin, 602 S. Main St., Lewiston-Woodville.
