Mr. Devon Gray Bell, age 75, a resident of 6271 River Road, Washington, died Saturday morning, July 14, 2007, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 16, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Rev. Mike Huppmann officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Bell was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Beaufort County to the late Bessie Arnold Bell and Redden Churchill Bell. He attended Beaufort County schools and was a graduate of Aurora High School. He was employed with Sears Retail as a service regional manager. He attended Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of the Washington Moose Lodge 1800. On May 27, 1978, he married the former Eleanor (Lois) Stanley Bell, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, JoAnn B. Thrift of Thomasville, N.C., and Sherri B. Brown of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Devon “Von” Bell of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Cynthia E. Johnson of Winston Salem, N.C.; one stepson, William Charles Elkins of Trinity, N.C. Other survivors include nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jasper Bell of Morehead City and Mayhew Bell of Chocowinity. Mr. Bell was preceded in death by four brothers, Roger R. Bell, Cleo James Bell, Redden C. Bell Jr. and Jesse Dalton Bell; and two sisters, Lillian B. Edwards and Ruth B Southard.
The family will receive friends Sunday. July 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at the home.
