Washington 16U All-Stars crowned champs

There’s more softball to be played for Washington’s 16U and 10U All-Star softball teams.
Both teams advanced to the Southeast Regional Babe Ruth Tournament.
16U crowned champs
The Washington 16U All-Stars were crowned champions of the Eastern N.C. State Babe Ruth softball tournament in Wilson.
Washington advanced to the Southeast Regional Babe Ruth Tournament, which will be held Wednesday through Sunday in Hendersonville.
The Washington All-Star team opens regional tournament play Thursday at 9 a.m. against Madison (N.C.). The winner will play the survivor between Glen Allen, Va., and Altamonte Springs, Fla., at 3 p.m. Thursday, while the loser plays Friday at 11 a.m. in an elimination game.
Washington took a 1-0 win in eighth innings over Cashie to being tournament play. Charity Watson’s no-hitter led Washington to a 5-0 win over Henderson/Vance in the next game. Hayley Stowe went 3-for-3, Casey Alligood 1-for-2 with a triple, Amber Alligood 1-for-2 and Watson 1-for-2.
The All-Stars followed that up with a 6-5 victory over Pitt County. Alligood was 3-for-4 with a triple, Watson 2-for-3, Brittany Bryant 1-for-4, Lauren Allen 1-for-3 and Sheria Jones 1-for-3.
Washington and Cashie met again in the championship series. Cashie took a 1-0 win for force a deciding game, which Washington won 3-2.
10U finish runner-up
The Washington 10U All-Star softball team advanced to the Southeast Regional Babe Ruth Tournament after capturing runner-up honors at the Eastern N.C. State Babe Ruth Tournament in Wilson.
The regional tournament will be held Wednesday through Sunday in Hendersonville. Washington will open play Thursday at 11 a.m. against Ocee Park, Ga. The winner will play at 3 p.m. Thursday against New Kent, Va., while the loser will play Thursday at 5 p.m. in an elimination game.
The 10U Washington All-Stars opened state action by suffering an 11-1 loss to Pitt County National. Carie Dority was 2-for-3, Kelsey Lang 1-for-2 with a double and Haley Hutchins 1-for-2 for Washington.
They bounced back to win their next five games to advance to the championship series, taking wins of 2-0 over Topsail (Megan Corey 2-3, Molly Hodges 2-3, Kaylee Jackson 1-1), 3-2 against Camden (Kaylee Jackson 2-3, Catie Dority 1-3), 11-5 over Kinston-Lenoir (Megan Corey 2-4, Anna Mayo 1-3, Adrianna Tyson 1-4 with a double), 5-4 against Pitt County American and 10-0 over Johnston County.
Washington opened the championship series with a 5-0 win over Wilson County Xtreme, but Wilson won the series with a 3-1 victory the following game.
8U takes third
The 8U and 14U Washington All-Star teams also played in the Eastern N.C. State Babe Ruth Tournament.
The 8U team finished in third place. Washington opened tournament action with a 15-1 win over Wilson County. Taylor Woolard was 3-for-3 with a home run, Christian McKissick 2-for-3, Christyle McKissick 2-for-2 with a triple, Haley Witham 2-for-2 and Lyndsey Little 2-for-2.
Washington then took a 20-0 win over Camden. Taylor Woolard went 1-for-3 with a triple, Christian McKissick 3-for-3 with a home run, Rachel Lang 2-for-3, Christyle McKissick 3-for-3 with two doubles, Summer Bell 2-for-3, Cierra Lassiter 3-for-3 with a double, Latyra Williams 2-for-3, Sarah Doughtie 2-for-3 and Lyndsey Little 2-for-3 with a double.
Washington eventually fell to New Bern, just missing out on the championship series.
14U wins one
The 14U team lost 7-4 to eventual champion Cashie to open tournament play. Washington took a 13-3 win over New Bern in the loser’s bracket. Whitney Lewis went 2-for-4, Caroline Smith 1-for-1 with a triple, Kristi Wood 1-for-3 with a triple, Brandi Hardison 2-for-3 and Lilyann Arnold 2-for-3. Washington then got eliminated with an 11-0 loss to Pitt County. Brandi Hardison and Morgan Bryant each went 1-for-2 for Washington.
