CHOCOWINITY — Having taken the helm at WITN-TV earlier this month, Chris Mossman, the station’s new general manager, said running a television station is something he’s been looking forward to for a long time. Eight years, to be exact.
That’s how long Mossman worked as vice-president for sales and marketing for WCTU in Tallahassee, Fla., before being promoted to general manager. Both stations are owned and operated by Gray Television, Inc., a television-broadcast company headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., where Mossman has also worked for the company. The company owns stations in 31 markets nationwide.
Mossman, originally from Bangor, Maine, graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in communications management. Asked about the decision to begin the new phase of his career in eastern North Carolina, Mossman said the area offers “accessible open water, friendly people and a small town quality of life.”
As general manager, “the buck stops with this office,” Mossman said.

Mossman declined to specify any changes he plans to make to the station and its broadcast, except that the station’s logo will soon be replaced, bringing what he called “a consistent graphic look to the broadcast.” He also declined to elaborate on any difference in managerial style he would bring to the station expect that he was “a very different person” from his predecessor, Mike Weeks, and will therefore bring a “different style” to managing the station.
As station news director, Stephanie Shoop said she looks forward to working with her new boss.
