ROBERSONVILLE — Coach Brian Paschal will lead his Roanoke Redskins onto the field for the season-opener Aug. 17 at SE Halifax to battle the Trojans.
Roanoke, 7-6 last year, cruised to a 42-20 victory last year over the Trojans, who are a member of the Tar-Roanoke Conference.
Paschal’s group will play its home opener Aug. 24 against North Edgecombe. The Warriors, another member of the Tar-Roanoke Conference, fell 16-14 to the Redskins last season.
After a bye the following week, Roanoke, a Class 1-A member of the Atlantic Conference, returns to action Sept. 7 at home against Gates County. The Redskins blanked the Red Barons, another member of the Tar-Roanoke Conference, 26-0 in 2006.
The Redskins will be on the road the following two weeks as they travel to Northampton-East on Sept. 14 and to Perquimans on Sept. 21. The Rams, also hailing from the Tar-Roanoke Conference, clipped Roanoke 22-6 last season. Roanoke took a wild 64-36 win over the Pirates, a member of the Albemarle Conference, last year.
Paschal’s team returns home Sept. 28 to face former Atlantic Conference and current Albemarle Conference member Plymouth. The Vikings won 34-14 in last season’s game.
Roanoke pays a visit to Manteo, an Albemarle Conference member, on Oct. 5. The Hurricanes breezed to a 43-0 win last year in the regular season, while then taking a 53-0 victory in the playoffs.
The Redskins play another Albemarle Conference member, Camden, at home on Oct. 12. The Bruins posted a 28-20 victory in 2006.
Roanoke ends the regular season facing its fellow Atlantic Conference members, including road games Oct. 19 at Southside and Oct. 26 at Northside. The Redskins fell 21-0 to Southside while topping Northside 44-0 a year ago.
Paschal’s group will play its regular-season finale at home Nov. 2 against Williamston. The Redskins earned a 36-20 win last year.

Tigers open season at home against Eagles
WILLIAMSTON — Coach Asim McGill, beginning his second season as head coach of the Williamston Tigers, will lead his team into action for the season-opener Aug. 17 at home against the Northeastern Eagles.
It’s the first of four straight games the Tigers, a Class 1-A Atlantic Conference member, will play against a 2-A opponent.
The Eagles are a 2-A member of the NE Coastal Conference. Williamston, 4-8 last year, dropped a 35-13 decision to the Eagles last year.
Williamston plays another 2-A NE Coastal Conference foe the following week when the Tigers play at Edenton-Holmes on Aug. 24. The Aces picked up a 34-19 win over Williamston last season.
After a bye week, the Tigers return to the field Sept. 7 at home against First Flight. The Nighthawks, another 2-A NE Coastal Conference member, and Tigers didn’t play last year.
Next up for Williamston is the North Pitt Panthers, a 2-A member of the Eastern Plains Conference. The two teams, which didn’t play last year, will square off Sept. 14 at North Pitt.
Things don’t get any less taxing for the Tigers as they play at Manteo, the first of four straight Albemarle Conference opponents, on Sept. 21. The Hurricanes rolled to a 47-6 win last year.
McGill’s team will be home the following two weeks as they welcome Camden into town on Sept. 28 and then Perquimans on Oct. 5. The Bruins took a 35-12 win during the regular season and a 41-21 victory in the playoffs. Williamston blanked Perquimans 39-0 last season.
The Tigers will then visit Plymouth on Oct. 12. The Vikings cruised to a 58-20 victory in 2006.
Williamston caps the regular season with games against its fellow Atlantic Conference members. The Tigers will be home for two of them, welcoming Northside on Oct. 19 and Southside on Oct. 26. Williamston posted a 43-8 win over Northside while falling 18-3 to Southside last season.
The Tigers close out the regular season Nov. 2 at Roanoke. Williamston fell 36-20 to the Redskins last year.
