Mrs. Ethel Lilly Coward Lupton, age 95, a former resident of 407 East 12th Street, Washington, N.C. died Friday July 20, 2007 at Britthaven of Washington.
A graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2007 at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington officiated by Eddie Bowen. Ray David Moore, Carter Leary, Zane Osnoe, Robert Andrews, Danny Johnson and Nick Saleeby will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Bojangles Tea Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Lupton was born in Robeson County on March 18, 1912 daughter of the late Heber Coward and the late Lilly Grey Chandler Coward. She married Garland Edward Lupton of Pamlico County on December 27, 1929 who preceded her in death on October 25, 1977. Mrs. Lupton was a retired clerk with the former McClellan’s Department Store of Washington. She was a former member of Captain Branch Christian Church and Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son: James Linwood Lupton and his wife Colleen of Washington; a sister: Helen Coward Gaskins Bland of Grifton; two grandchildren: James Linwood Lupton, II of Roanoke Rapids and David Garland Lupton of Washington and two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lupton was preceded in death by a brother: Linwood Heber “Bud” Coward and a great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Lupton’s son: James Lupton located at 1215 North Respess Street, Washington, NC.
