PLYMOUTH — Reigning Daily News’ Coach of the Year Robert Cody and his Plymouth Vikings, last year’s Atlantic Conference champions, will start the season Aug. 17 at Farmville Central.
The Vikings, 10-3 last year, fell 27-7 to the Jaguars, a Class 2-A member of the Eastern Plains Conference, a year ago.
Plymouth, a new member of the Class 1-A Albemarle Conference, will play its home opener Aug. 24 against Jamesville. The Bullets, a 1-A member of the Tideland Conference, fell 42-8 to the Vikings last year.
Cody’s crew will visit Edenton-Holmes on Aug. 31. Plymouth rolled to a 72-31 win over the Aces, a 2-A member of the NE Coastal Conference, last season.
Plymouth is back home Sept. 7 to face Northampton-West. The Vikings and Hurricanes, a member of the Tar-Roanoke Conference, didn’t play in 2006.
Following a bye week, the Vikings play four straight games against former Atlantic Conference members. The Vikings will be on the road for the first two of those games, traveling to Northside on Sept. 21 and to Roanoke on Sept. 28. Plymouth won 59-12 over Northside and 34-14 over Roanoke last year.
The Vikings will then be home Oct. 5 against Southside and Oct. 12 against Williamston. Cody’s team topped the Seahawks 34-12 and the Tigers 58-20 in 2006.
Plymouth will close out regular season play with contests against its Albemarle Conference foes, including road games Oct. 19 at Camden and Oct. 26 at Manteo. The Vikings beat Camden 50-27 while falling 24-22 to Manteo last year.
Cody’s group ends regular-season play Nov. 2 at home against Perquimans. The Vikings rolled up a season-high in points in a 74-12 shellacking of the Pirates last year.
