Ms. Elnora Vines of 519 Greenfield Blvd., Greenville, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday in York Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 201 Tyson St., Greenville, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Hammond, eulogist. Burial will follow in St. John Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, Falkland.
Ms. Vines was born in Pitt County. She was the daughter of the late James Frank Vines and Frances Harris Vines. She attended Falkland Elementary School and graduated from Farmville Central High School, Farmville. She later graduated from North Carolina Central University, Durham. She was employed as a teacher of history and social studies in the Pitt County School System. She was also the girls’ basketball coach at W.H. Robinson High School in Pitt County. She worked with voter registration in Pitt County and was a member of Ladies Delight Chapter No. 10, Order of Eastern Star, Greenville. During her early years, she joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Falkland. She later became a member of York Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, Greenville, where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Society and the Stars of York.
Survivors include one sister, Alice Vines Branch of Brooklyn, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to York Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 201 Tyson St., Greenville for its caring spirit program.
A walk-in viewing will be held today from 4-8 p.m. at York Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, Greenville. The body will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the funeral service Friday.
