Mr. James Edward Winfield, 92, of 2883 Creek Road, Pinetown, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Autumnfield of Belhaven Retirement and Rest Home, Pinetown.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday in Woodstock Free Will Baptist Church, Sidney community, Belhaven, with Elder Horace Griffin Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held just before the funeral service begins.
Mr. Winfield was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 29, 1914. He was the son of the late Edward and Effie Lacy Winfield. He attended the Beaufort County Schools. He was married to Irene Smith Winfield, who preceded him in death. He was employed as an environmental technician with the City of Belhaven sanitation department. He was also a retired farmer and fisherman. He was a lifelong member of Woodstock Free Will Baptist Church, Belhaven, where he served as a trustee.
Survivors include four daughters, Ivia Harvey and Gwendolyn John, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dora Borden of Pinetown, and Patricia Winfield of Brunswick, Ga.; two sons, Carl Winfield of Belhaven, and Russell Winfield of Brunswick, Ga.; three sisters, Alethia Winfield of Belhaven, and Evelyn “Old Ebb” Gray and Thelma Garnett, both of Washington; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Dora Borden, 3263 Creek Road, Pinetown.
