Mrs. Laura Keech Smith, 89, of Autumnfield Rest Home and formerly of 417 East Bay Street, Belhaven, died Saturday July 28, 2007.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Belhaven Community Cemetery and will be officiated by the Rev. Mike Isbell.
Mrs. Smith was born in Beaufort County on October 23, 1917 to the late William and Ida Keech of Free Union. She married Charlie Smith on April 6, 1944, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1985. Mrs. Smith worked with the local Roses store, the Colonial Grocery Store and Bell’s Grocery. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Belhaven Lioness Club and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She and her husband Charlie operated the Belhaven Community Center for many years.
Survivors include one son, Harold Smith and his wife Susan of Belhaven; two grandchildren, Brittany Smith of Greenville, Ashley Smith Johnson and her husband Parker of Lyons, Colo., and one great-grandson, Bode Rivers Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Rae Smith Hagan, five brothers and seven sisters.
The family received friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Monday at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
