Footballs and enthusiam spiraled through the air Monday as the Washington High School football began its first day of practice.
Fourth year coach Sport Sawyer said he was happy to be back on the field with his squad.
While the Pam Pack players are excited to be back on the gridiron, Sawyer said he has installed a new offense that should thrill Washington fans.
With an abundance of talent at the skill positions, Sawyer has decided to ditch the wing-T that he has run for the last three years and open up the offense.
Thompson, a junior quarterback will guide the team for the second year in a row, while Daniels, the senior running back is expected to have a tremendous season.
Sawyer said watching his team play well in passing leagues this summer also encouraged his decision to scrap the wing-T.
A spread offense features more passing plays so to max out the potential of Jones, Sawyer said he will shift him from wing-back to slot receiver.
Sawyer also said he is working with an undersized offensive line, and the spread offense is a good way to counteract teams that line up eight or more defenders in the box.
Sawyer said he was pleased with the turnout at the Pam Pack’s first day of practice, and said the first week of practice will feature lessons in fundamentals.
Along with teaching fundamentals, the Pack skipper said he plans on using his first week to get his team back in shape.
