Mrs. Valerie Barnett Hackney, 49, of 7571 Kershaw Road, Arapahoe, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Piney Grove Disciples of Christ Church with the Rev. Farris Slade officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hackney was born in Beaufort County and reared in the District of Columbia. She relocated to Pamlico County in the 1970s. She was married to Frederick Hackney, who survives. She had been employed in the food service and garment industry. She was a member of Anointed Remnant Church.
Survivors include one son, Terrence Hackney of Arapahoe; two daughters, Tanshell Curry of Japan and Kinshata Hackney of New Bern; one brother, Mohammed Abuie of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Ellen Wallace of New Bern and Dora Hackney of Atlanta, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will take place today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oscar’s Mortuary, New Bern.
