Lena Askew Latham, 84, of New Bern, passed away Wednesday August 8, 2007 at her home.
Lena was born in Colerain, NC on September 7, 1922. She graduated from Colerain High School in 1939. She attended Mars Hill College and Keys Business College in Norfolk, VA. She worked for the U.S. Government and retired from Weyco Credit Union.
Lena married Hallet Thomas Latham in Suffolk, VA in 1955. They lived in Plymouth, NC for ten years and moved to New Bern in 1969.
She is survived by her husband, Hallet Thomas Latham; one son, H. Keith Latham and his wife, Lori Dostal of Brighton, Michigan; two daughters, Kim Latham Moseley and her husband the Reverend Grady Moseley of Charlotte, NC and Karla Gwaltney of New Bern; six grandchildren, Kerry Latham, Jackie Latham, Cameron Moseley, Latham Moseley, Karl Gwaltney and Katy Gwaltney; one sister, Retha Mizzelle of Colerain, NC; one brother-in-law, Dalton Latham and his wife Frances of Washington, NC.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Pollock-Best Funeral Home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. on Friday at Temple Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Cobb and the Reverend Steve Simpson officiating.
Interment will immediately follow the service at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, the Twin Rivers Lions Club or the charity of one’s choice.
