Mr. Jacob Edward “Jake” Keyser, Jr., 88, went to be with the Lord and his late wife, Libby on July 15, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, August, 11, 2007 at Harvest Church with Pastor Tad Tankard officiating.
Mr. Keyser was born October 15, 1918 in Rappahannock County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Mary Frances “Honey Bee” Eastham Keyser and Jacob Edward Keyser, Sr. He graduated from Washington High School in Washington, VA, and attended VPI for two years as a cadet majoring in agriculture. He and his father were apple growers, horse breeders and trainers. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1940 to 1946. During his service years, he served in Hawaii, Australia and New Guinea.
On January 9, 1948, he married Elizabeth Grace Waldron from New York in Mountain Green, Washington, VA. While living in Washington, VA, their daughter, Grace Ann was born.
Shortly after the birth of their daughter, the Keysers moved to Williamsburg, VA. Mr. Keyser was Superintendent of the Horse Carriage and Shuttle Bus Operations in Colonial Williamsburg for more than 25 years. He and Libby also owned laundry mats. Mr. Keyser was the first person to portray George Washington in Colonial Williamsburg and was frequently asked to do so. He enjoyed bird and fox hunting, cards, golf, boating, his pets, but most of all his family, especially his grandson, Jack. In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Keyser moved to Washington, NC to enjoy Jack.
Mr. Keyser was preceded in death in 2001 by, Libby, his wife of 53 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Grace Ann Whitley and her husband, Guy; his grandson, Jackson Edward Tennis; and his great-grandson, Logan Edward.
