WILLAMSTON — Mr. Jesse Wed Curtis, 85, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at his home. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Gobel and the Rev. Matt Curtis officiating; burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Curtis was the son of the late Lawrence Sterling and Minnie Elizabeth Bunting Curtis. He was the last living of seven children. He was the manager and co-owner of Harrison Propane Gas Company and a member of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by a grandson Clay Curtis.
He was married on December 31, 1945 to Mary Lee Johnson Curtis. Survivors in addition to his wife are sons Jesse Wed “Curt” Curtis II of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Tony Dale Curtis of Midlothian, Va., daughters Jonatha Swatek of St. Louis, Missouri, and Nan Curtis Peaks of Williamston, grandchildren Matt Curtis and Charlie Curtis, sons of Jesse Wed, Spencer Curtis and Michael Curtis, sons of Dale, Julie Matkins and Jeri Lyn Wynn, daughters of Nan, Jay Peaks, Gloria Wilhelm and Tammy Mills, stepchildren of Nan; 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 200 Vance Street. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 101 E. Liberty St., Williamston, NC 27892.
