James A. Stalls Sr.

Mr. James Alfred Stalls Sr., 82, a resident of 104 James St., Everetts, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at Martin General Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Biggs Funeral Chapel, Williamston, with the Rev. Don Sharpe officiating. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Stalls was the son of the late Raymond Stalls and Allie James Stalls. He was an engineer with the Department of Transportation, retiring in 1990 with 45 years of service. He was a member of Everetts Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He also served as mayor and commissioner for the Town of Everetts. He was a member of Stonewall Masonic Lodge No. 296 in Robersonville.
He married the former Mary Alice Cherry on Jan. 16, 1944. She survives.
Survivors include a son, Jim Stalls of Smithfield; a daughter, Susan S. Cannady of Greensboro; three sisters, Janie S. Griffin and Frances S. Bowen, both of Williamston, and Barbara S. Gardner of Greenville; a brother, Ward Stalls of Williamston; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the home.
