Mr. Mitchell Reed (K.W.) Gardner, age 74, a resident of 555 East 9th Street, died Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at Beaufort County Hospital as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Woolard Family Cemetery, Betsy Elbow Road, Washington, conducted by Dr. Jimmy Moore.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Frank Godley, Kenny Parker, Randy Ange, Paul Winslow, Mitchell Warren, and Leslie Miller, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Scott, Edmund Evans, Bill Shavender and Alpheus Lewis.
Mr. Gardner was born in Pitt county on June 7, 1933. He was the son of the late Wyatt Gardner and Lucretia Jones Gardner. Mr. Gardner served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was the retired owner and operator of Gardner Trucking Company. Mr. Gardner was a member of the Washington Moose Lodge.
On December 3, 1983, Mr. Gardner married the former Joyce Miller, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Sandy Godley and her husband, Frank of Washington, Lisa Adams of Greenville, Michelle Chrismon of West Virginia, and Michelle Gardner of New Bern; one son, Mitchell Reed Gardner, Jr. of Manning, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Trey Brunson, Cody Godley, Trey Gardner, and Will Gardner.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of his daughter and son in law, Sandy and Frank Godley, 469 Betsy Elbow Road, Washington.
