Mr. Elton Wace Manning, 92, of Greenville, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at Cypress Glen Retirement Community, Greenville.
A graveside service will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in Robersonville’s First Town Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating.
Mr. Manning was born in Robersonville on May 14, 1915. He was the son of the late Joseph and Vada Andrews Manning. He was a graduate of Wake Forest College. He served in the Army during and after World War II, retiring from the Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel. He lived in the Washington, D.C., area for many years, where he worked for the federal government as a real estate appraiser. He later operated his own real estate appraisal business in northern Virginia. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Masons for more than 50 years.
Survivors include one niece, Wynona Haydon of Wilmington and three nephews, Bobby Hughes of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Bob Manning of Greensboro, and Hal Manning of Bethel.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Inez M. Hughes, Espy Manning and Harold Manning.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cypress Glen Retirement Home, 100 Hickory St., Greenville, NC 27858.
