Mr. Gortha Alfred Green, 87, of 1268 Mapletown Road, Swan Quarter, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Old Richmond Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Reginald Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Green was born in Hyde County on May 27, 1920. He was the son of the late Fred Green Sr. and Bessie Whitney Green. He attended the Greenhill School. He was an Army veteran. He was a retired farmer. He was married to Lucy Gibbs Green, who survives. He served on the Farmers Home Administration board and the Soil and Water Conservation board. He was a member of the New Branch Masonic Lodge No. 785 and the American Legion Post No. 226. He was a member of Old Richmond Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the board of trustees.
Survivors include one son, Ronald W. Green of the home; one daughter, Alma J. Pugh of Swan Quarter; one brother, Garland Green of Queens, N.Y.; one sister, Malissie Credle of Portsmouth, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Delma Spencer.
The family will receive friends at the home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
