On Thursday morning, August 30, our beloved mother, grandmother and great granny, 92, passed away at her home in Pantego, while her loving family was by her side. We feel in our hearts that God must have a special place for her, for she was so special to us. She was the heart of our family. She will be dearly missed by her many friends, her devoted family and her extended family.
A Beaufort County native, Mrs. Woolard was born October 22, 1914. She was daughter of the late Dallas Spain and Alice Bullock Spain Sears. She was married to Worthy Woolard who preceded her in death, August 18, 1992. Mrs. Woolard’s faith in God and the love for her family were the most important things in her life. She was truly a blessing to all who knew her. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking and beautiful flowers, however, her favorite pastime was simply having conversation with her family and friends. Mrs. Woolard was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ and in her later years attended West Belhaven Church of Christ.
Mrs. Woolard is survived by four daughters; Joyce W. Mizelle, Shirley W. Taylor and her husband Glenn, Genevieve W. Gillis and her husband Mike all of Washington and Stella W. Adams and her husband Linwood of Pantego; three sons: James Worthy Woolard and his wife Carolyn, Dewey Lee Woolard and his wife Gloria and Stonie Dale Woolard all of Washington; one sister: Cottie Woolard of Washington; two half sisters: Virginia Warren and Audrey Goff; two half brothers: Devon Spain and Roger Spain. She is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren. Mrs. Woolard was preceded in death by one son: Jerry Paul Woolard; a daughter: Alma Woolard and her husband Earl and a son-in-law: Charlie E. Mizelle all who were from Washington; two sisters: Lydia Dixon and Grace S. Woolard; three brothers: Dallas Spain Jr., Alfred Spain and Dan Spain; Three half brothers: Richard F. Spain, Elton Homer Spain and Burl Spain and grandchildren: Lisa Lyne Woolard and Miriam Elaine Woolard.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1 at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Woolard’s daughter Genevieve Gillis, 1350 Lizzard Slip Road, Washington.
Funeral services will be conducted by Linwood Adams and Mike Cayton at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home in Washington, with private interment in the Woolard Family Cemetery. Mrs. Woolard’s grandsons: Jason Adams, Steve Mizelle, Jeff Taylor, Rodney Woolard, Jerry Woolard and Anthony Woolard will serve as pallbearers. The remaining grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Rosemary Church of Christ, 5226 Slatestone Road, Washington, NC 27889.
Our family would like to express heartfelt appreciation for the kindness and care that Dr. P.M. Moore and Dr. Thomas Ertle showed to our mother over the years. We also want to express our sincere appreciation for the caregivers, whose dedication, service and love for our mother made them a part of our family.
