Mr. G. Harold Sawyer, 86, a resident of 200 Pine Street, Ridgewood, Washington, N.C. died Saturday, September 01, 2007 at Ridgewood Manor.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Harvest Church, with Ron Estes and Tad Tankard officiating. Burial will follow in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Sawyer was born in Beaufort County on July 11, 1921. He was the son of the late Grover Edward Sawyer and Cassie Woolard Sawyer. On August 10, 1941 he married Minnie Trueblood, his beloved wife of 66 years, who survives. He graduated from Washington High School. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Army where he served for seven years in the Artillery Division as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Sawyer then attended the New York School of Mechanical Dentistry. He returned to Washington where he owned and operated the Washington Dental Lab for 50 years. He also served as a Lay Minister at Asbury United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Grover H. Sawyer, Jr. and his wife Carol of Washington and Philip Rodney Sawyer and his wife Paula of Ellicott City, MD; three grandchildren, Jason E. Sawyer of Austin, TX, Brendan M. Sawyer of Rock Hill, SC, David M. Sawyer of Ellicott City, MD; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Hilton Sawyer.
