Mr. George Donahue Nobles, 80, formerly of High Point, NC and native of Beaufort County, died early Monday morning, September 10, 2007, at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2007 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Mr. Nobles was born November 25, 1926 in Beaufort County. He was the son of George P. and Lucy E. Nobles. He lived his early years in the Chocowinity area moving to Washington in his teenage years and graduating from Washington High School in 1945. He served in the US Army during 1946 and 1947. He was the credit manager for Sherwin-Williams store in Washington, NC for several years before transferring with that company to Rock Hill, SC. While in Rock Hill, he began a career with Lowes, primarily in contractor sales. He retired from Lowes in High Point. He was a member of Laurel Oak Christian Church in High Point. He was married to the former Dorothy Sullivan, who preceded him in death on April 25, 2005.
Survivors include his son, W. Steven Nobles and his wife Judy of Washington, NC; his daughter, Joni W. Smith and her husband Randy of High Point, NC; three grandsons, Jeffery Smith, Christopher Smith and Taylor Smith; and a sister, Annie Belle Grissom of Chocowinity, NC. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
