Washington High School’s soccer team ran its record to 4-2 with the second victory in as many nights by beating Williamston 4-2 on Thursday at home.
The Pam Pack, which beat South Central 2-1 the night before, had to struggle at points, but never trailed.
Washington’s Daniel Sawyer drew first blood with a goal with 30:41 showing on the clock. Within two minutes, the Tigers came back and tied it on a score from Damien Castro.
Washington went up again on a goal by Bladimir Romero with 24:59 showing. Romero was one of two jayvee players pulled up for Thursday’s game.
Sawyer made the margin 3-1 on a goal 32:09 on the clock in the second half. John Marshal Howard provided one of his two scoring assists on the night.
Williamston pulled it to 3-2 with a second goal by Castro with 23:15 left. Archie Griffin had a penalty kick with 3:14 left to give Washington the final margin.
Edgar Perez and Cody Speller provided assists for Williamston, which now has a record of 4-4.
Coach Kozuch had to make some changes this week because of injuries.
The Pam Pack lost Kyle Cochran, a defender to a knee injury. He should be back this season, but Kozuch isn’t sure when. Jimmy Hardison also didn’t start Thursday but did see some playing time.
So Kozuch pulled up Romero and goalie Steven Worsley up from the jayvee squad.
Senior goalie Josh Carter saw action the entire first half, but Worsley suited up and played the entire second half. Carter had seven saves on the night and Worsley had two.
Washington doesn’t get much rest. They are scheduled to travel to West Craven for a conference game on Monday and then play 4-A J.H. Rose on Thursday.
